Sijin Joseph points out a cool tool called CVS-SCC Proxy that allows you to connect to a CVS repository as if it were actually SourceSafe.

Whilst researching my latest book, I discovered that Scott has put the .Text source up using my SourceBrowse project. Jason's also using it for the nGallery source.
It has highlighted the fact, however, that I forgot to add a source mapping for .ASPX, .ASCX and .ASMX files, which is a... uh... bit of an oversight. Looks like I need to fix that!
Anyone else using it?

Joel Spolsky writes about his approach to backup.
Very neat - the entire solution is based on hard disks, rather than tape.

This article on CodeProject demonstrates how to create an owner-draw ListView for use with Windows Forms.
As a side note, does anyone know if it's possible to create items with different heights? As far as I can tell, it just isn't possible, but I'd welcome being corrected on this one. (The way you do it, by the way, is to create a image list who's elements are as tall as the item height you require. There's no notion of “WM_MEASUREITEM” for a ListView.)

I'm pleased to say that after a couple of weeks of waiting, Google has spidered my new site and it's ready to launch.
AdminLife.com is like .NET 247 but for Windows sysadmins.
Enjoy!

While I admit it's been a long time since I blogged, I feel my life would be forever unfulfilled if I were to lose a link to this amazing site: The Daily WTF.
In it, Alex Papadimoulis gathers collections of great code cock-ups and lambasts them publicly for all to see. Absolutely hilarious.
Puts me in mind of This is Broken.

Dell have the unfortunate task of recalling around a million notebook and/or docking station power adapters. There is -- apparently -- a small risk of fire. I'd hate to be the company who built those for them.
What's awesome is that that couldn't make the job of ordering (for free) replacement adapters any easier than they have. Simply visit http://www.delladapterprogram.com/, fill out the form and they'll send you new adapters.

So you like to use Remote Desktop, but you're the kinda guy who likes to close windows with Alt+F4?
If you do, you most likely get irritated at having to reach for the mouse to get back to the host desktop. No more - Alt+Ctrl+Break is your friend. (And on my Inspiron, that's a *lovely* four key combination. Mmmmmmm.)
