Melodeo, a company that specializes in delivering content to mobile phones, today announced that NPR has selected the company's Mobilcast service to deliver 45 of its podcasts to mobile phone users in the U.S. and Canada.
The service will also offer podcasts from NPR Member station KCRW Santa Monica, CA. KCRW podcasts include national and international news analysis as well as arts and entertainment features.

Artist Daniel Edwards is the subject of an interview on the Send2Press podcast. The Edwards' work has been the subject of controversy recently, especially his clay sculpture, Monument to Pro-Life, a nude portrait of Britney Spears giving birth.
The interview (MP3) covers Edwards' feelings towards controvery in art, his sculpted "death mask" bust of baseball legend Ted Williams' severed head and more.

To some podcasters the news may represent a validation of the potential of podcasting. For others, it may represent a stake to the indie podcasting heart. Radio Disney plans to offer free, ad-supported podcasts that target 6-to-14 year-old children.
Starting in June, Radio Disney will insert ads into its weekly podcasts over periods such as a month. Video-game maker THQ is among the first to sign on.

Added to Podcast Client Software list: Carl Franklin has announced an "alpha" version of PwopCatcher, a free podcast downloader, player and manager application for Windows.
PwopCatcher supports enclosures of any kind, and can download podcasts distributed via BitTorrent.
The alpha version only has download and subscription features. Plans for future versions include a Player/Dashboard, and a podcast manager.

Added to Podcast Directory List: Podcast Promos is a site that lets podcasters submit and share promos for their shows. Listeners can check out 30, 60 or 120 second promo podcasts to preview shows.
The site is intended to be a place for "podcast producers to promote their shows and podcast listeners to sample shows in a central location."

Schools in the Pinckney Community School distriict of Pinckney, MI, are pioneering the use of podcasts in K-12 education.
The Pinckney Community School podcasts include podcasts for individual schools, and themed podcasts, such as the PSTN - Pinckney Sports Television Network.
"The new world is creative, and it's exciting to see how creative kids can be,'' said Diane Harris, Pinckney Elementary's art and technology teacher. "Podcasting gives their written words a voice, and it's fun to see where they'll take it next.''

UK Internet provider BT is targeting customers who it says are regularly breaking their monthly broadband download limits. The company has sent letters to more than 3,000 customers that it has identified as excessive users.
According to BT, the users were downloading between 100 and 200 gigabytes a month. They will be given the choice to pay for their high use or risk losing their connection altogether.

The British Market Research Bureau (BMRB) reports that a quarter of all adult internet users will listen to a podcast in the next 6 months.
“The findings suggest that up to 7.9 million adults could be downloading podcasts in the next 6 months, which represents a massive opportunity for advertisers and media owners alike,” said BMRB marketing director Steve Cooke.
The report is based on a national (UK) survey of 1,000 adults in February 2006.

Vloggercon is a conference about video blogging that is for active vloggers and for people that are interested in getting started. Tickets are $40 per day or $60 for both days.

The winner will receive a "record and promote" prize package: 100,000 banner views at Podcast Pickle, a Blue Snowball microphone as well as a featured spot on the Guild's Web site.

Insiders at Taiwanese phone maker BenQ say that Apple procurement executives have been talking to various Taiwanese phone makers during the past few months in an effort to cut a manufacturing deal on an iPod Phone, reports SmartHouse.
"An iPod phone is definitely coming. BenQ will not be making it as we are in competition with Apple however several of our suppliers have been approached to manufacture parts. Among manufacturers in Taiwan it is common knowledge. The issue for many is the availabilty of parts if the phone takes off" said the BenQ executive.
