Profits at Canada's commercial private radio stations declined in 2004.
But blame the French.
The CRTC (Canada's broadcast regulator) says overall earnings were
$224.1 million last year across all 544 of Canada's private stations. It
was $227.0 million in 2003.
The vast majority of declines came from profit loss in French
stations. They were down 19.3%! English-language station profits were
actually up 0.6%.

Canada's broadcast regulator, the CRTC, today approved Soci??t?? radio communautaire for a broadcasting licence to operate a French-language FM community radio station in Victoria. It'll be at 107.9 MHz (250 watts, for those of you who care). The station will broadcast 126 hours of programming in each broadcast week, including a minimum of 35 hours of programming produced by the station (some of the balance coming from the R??seau francophone d???Am??rique).
