1. Weekend Update  - Captured: 7-12-2004 0:26:51
Decent weekend, Friday night was dinner at Mediterranean Kitchen and some shopping at the Bon. Saturday we went to Keshav and Kerrie's pre-Christmas party. Unfortunately I slept through the first part of it, but I did get to play a bit of halo 2 co-op and watch Keshav show off the new Grand Theft Auto game. Sunday, pam and I went on an 8 mile bike ride through a small snow storm, meeting our ride leader Ted. Pam's phone didn't survive the trip. We did a bunch of chores around the house, finally ...

Someone asked tonight a question along the lines of “What is Microsoft's stance on Mono?“.  Although I can't answer that question definitively, I can offer to share my opinion.  So, for what it's worth, I'm going to share some of my thoughts.  (Note: This is streamed from my brain... through the fingers... to the keyboard... into the textbox.  So, if some of it seems there is some discontinuity; it's just me thinking... well I'm not sure what the term for it ...

7. Cold, cold and more cold...  - Captured: 18-1-2005 2:50:07
This morning it was -47 F. Now it is -1 F. Either one is just plain cold. Of course this morning we were about 14 miles south of the Canadian border near Lake of the Woods, and now we are back home in the Twin Cities. I very much doubt it got to -47 F down here in the balmy south-country of Minnesota :-) This has been one of the strangest winters in a long time. We still have virtually no snow here in the Twin Cities. You have to drive at least an hour north to get real snow. That's nuts! ...

8. Cooperative Fridays  - Captured: 12-2-2005 17:29:00
Perhaps a new tradition?  We'll see... Last night Jacob, Matthew and I played our two favorite cooperative games (ok, our only two): Lord of the Rings and Vanished Planet. Lord of the Rings ranks as one of our favorite family games, and is the game responsible for getting me back into the gaming hobby.  It was a gift from Julie's brother for Christmas 2002, and after doing some searching on the web for this Knizia guy I eventually found BoardGam...

9. New Years Gaming  - Captured: 9-1-2005 20:33:14
We invited the Humphrey and Rude families out to Salishan for an extended weekend of fun and games. This was our first test of the house for a large group of guests, and it went extremely well.  We had a total of 13 people staying at the house and pretty much everyone was able to sleep on a bed in relative privacy (with their own family).  Jacob and Matthew camped out on the floor in the master bedroom - we need to fix this next time as that's rather uncomforta...

10. Some More Gaming - Air Barons, Entdecker, and more  - Captured: 29-12-2004 9:39:52
These past two weeks have been rather odd for me.  First, I usually take around 10 days of vacation around Christmas and New Years.  In fact, I can't remember the last time I worked the week in between Christmas and New Years.  Because we did the cruise earlier in the month, I decided to work three days both weeks.  This included today, which is my birthday (I'm 0x25 this year).  Second, Julie and the boys have been camped out at Salishan for ove...

11. What did he look like?  - Captured: 13-2-2005 21:08:35
Melissa and I watched the extended version of Return of the King this weekend. In general I liked it, although I still wish Peter Jackson would have included some sort of destruction of the Shire, and melded some amount of the cleanup on behalf of Merry, Pippin and Sam. I think that coming back to the Shire to find that it was not spared from the destruction, and the feelings that the hobbits felt when they returned to find their homes damaged or destroyed was a key part of the whole story. T...

So I did manage to get the last 40 GB iPod in New Jersey right after Christmas and I've been starting to play with it in between family gatherings and big meals. Let me first say that I am very psyched about the Belkin microphone adapter I got which allows me to use the iPod as a recording device. I've been interviewing my kids, and I can see all sorts of ways to use just that piece of it in the classroom...recording classwork, oral histories, interviews for MovieMaker voice overs. The best part...

19. Gift Giving - Think About it Now!  - Captured: 27-2-2005 22:04:56
It is time to start thinking about any holiday promotions. If your product is consumer oriented, think about how you can increase sales by offering it as a gift. Over the years different developers have promoted software for the holidays a variety of ways. Consider marketing your software as a gift for the coming holidays.

1. Offer a software bundle
2. Offer 2 copies at a discount (one for a gift), issue separate registrations.
3. Offer gift certific...

20. SBC Breaks Free From Bad Bundling  - Captured: 3-3-2005 2:27:39
Carriers captured consumers' attention with low broadband prices but forced them to buy full-featured voice offerings to get the discount. To move broadband penetration from 26% in 2004 to 60% by 2009, operators must offer a low-cost broadband alternative. In a surprise move, SBC is breaking from telcos' bad bundling practices by offering a 1.5Mbps DSL line for $19.95 with the purchase of a basic line. What's the catch? In exchange for a discount, consumers must help SBC cut its acquisition cost...
