Canada's broadcast regulator, the CRTC, today approved Soci??t?? radio communautaire for a broadcasting licence to operate a French-language FM community radio station in Victoria. It'll be at 107.9 MHz (250 watts, for those of you who care). The station will broadcast 126 hours of programming in each broadcast week, including a minimum of 35 hours of programming produced by the station (some of the balance coming from the R??seau francophone d???Am??rique).
It'll be mostly talk -- only 15% of it must be community-oriented spoken word programming."
Here's something cool -- besides training to the station???s volunteers, they'll also give students from the French-language Victor-Brodeur school in Victoria, as well as students from other schools that offer a French immersion program, the opportunity to take part in training and perhaps even management activities.
Yay Canada!
